When you're at summer camp you are surrounded by pure bliss. Where ever you look there is happiness and laughter. This past year was my last year as a camper and I can honestly say it was the best year ever.
If you live in Michigan and have never heard of Spring Hill Camps what are you doing with your life? I did a blog post last year about The Values of Summer Camp and talked about Springhill and why I love it so much in that post. Check it out if you can!
This year was my 11th and final year as a camper at Springhill and it was amazing. When I first got to camp I was so excited because some people from my brother and sister cabin from the year before were in my area again and it was awesome reconnecting with them.
This year my area was assigned to work in the dining halls. We were split up into groups between two or three dining halls across camp. I ended up working in the Storybrook dining hall serving the 1st-3rd grade kids. I LOVED WORKING THERE! Because it's smaller than the other dining halls on camp we had a small work crew meaning we got the chance to get to know each other better. Our work consisted of serving food and water, clearing and wiping the tables, doing the dishes, and sweeping and mopping the floor. Now this doesn't sound fun I'll admit but seeing and talking to the kids everyday made work worth it. Because the kids were full of smiles and joy you wanted to serve them. And when there wasn't anything for us to do we could talk to the kids. It was encouraging to hear them talk about their favorite activity or what they are learning about God and seeing how our work let them have the opportunity to do that. Without us serving and cleaning, the kids wouldn't get to eat, meaning no summer camp for them.
Seeing the kids smiles everyday encouraged me to want to come back and serve them again. I knew ever since I was little I wanted to work at least one summer at Springhill on staff but I never knew what I wanted to do. Maybe crafts? Maybe pictures? Maybe high ad? Maybe a counselor? Not until I saw the 1st-3rd grade kids and got to hangout with them during their meals did I know I wanted to be a storybook counselor. I'm so excited to continue my Springhill Journey and go back and be a counselor for these kids. I'm excited to show God's love with the kids while being surrounded by it. I can't believe I get the opportunity to work all summer at a place I have grown up at and get to serve the kids that I was once like and with friends I have met at camp. Pray for me as June comes and that God will teach me through this experience!
Check out Springhill if you are in or know someone in the 1st-12th grade who is looking for a fun place to go or send their kids to this summer and let them learn about God while having the time of their lives! I know it is expensive but Springhill offers scholarships and right now there is a $100 off code EARLYBIRD100 if you register before December 31st.
